A pediatric RN on how it feels to be called a hero.
From Falon Wilcoxson of Houston, TX:
"I'm a pediatric RN with ventilator dependent tracheilostomy patients and, to say the least, long hours of meticulous care against COVID-19 is critical. My healthcare family all over the world unite despite fear, exhaustion, affliction, and despair. As honoring as it is, it feels weird to be called hero. We're merely doing what we were called to do. For us, we see hero in the patient that fights for their life without a visitor allowed. For the families that grieve because they can't hold their loved one's hand. Nothing could have prepared us for what we are experiencing but all of the people and companies, like HELM Audio, acknowledgement and support encourages us to keep fighting. That's who our heroes are. THANK YOU!"
My daughter is a front line worker who is sacrificing everything to serve the patients at her facility, it does however make our relationship very difficult to maintain as I am a cancer survivor with a very compromised immune system...
My coworkers and I are continuing to provide chemotherapy treatment to pediatric patients. At this time we are only allowing one caregiver with the patient per visit...
With the uncertainty of COVID-19, we are putting ourselves on the frontline caring for others. We are praying we don’t bring the virus home with us to our own family...
